About The TPO

The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is a regional, multi-jurisdictional agency tasked with transportation planning and programming for the expenditure of State and Federal transportation funds.  The TPO is mandated by Federal and State law to provide a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning process in order for Federal and State transportation funds to be spent in the Space Coast area.   The TPO annually establishes project priorities, which are considered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) when programming State and Federal transportation funds.

Who is the TPO?
The Space Coast TPO consists of nineteen (19) elected officials from local governments throughout the Space Coast. In addition, the Space Coast TPO has several advisory committees, including the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), and the Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Advisory Committee (BPTAC).

What is the role of the TPO?
The TPO is responsible for planning and programming the expenditure of State and Federal (not local) transportation funds.  The TPO also provides technical guidance to local governments regarding transportation planning issues.  As a result, the TPO develops several work products, including annual Project Priorities, a Five Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and a Long Range (20 year, at a minimum) Transportation Plan (LRTP).

Please note that the TPO is a planning agency and not an implementing agency.  Projects are funded and implemented by other agencies such as FDOT, Brevard County, Space Coast Area Transit or local municipalities.

When Does the TPO Meet?
Space Coast TPO conducts their meetings on the second Thursday of each month (except for January, June or August), beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Florida Room on the 3rd floor of Building C at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera (directions below). Meetings are also televised live and re-broadcast on Space Coast Government Television (SCGTV). For broadcast schedules and other information, go to SCGTV.

The Technical Advisory Committee and Citizens Advisory Committee (TAC/CAC) meet together on the Monday prior to the TPO Board meeting, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Space Coast Room on the 2nd floor of Building C at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera (directions below).

The TPO welcomes public participation in the transportation planning process. All meetings of the Space Coast TPO and their advisory committees are open to the public and subject to the requirements of Florida's "Sunshine Law", State and Federal Nondiscrimination laws, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

View the current meeting calendar on the calendar page.
